The SFC Opava is a Czech football club from Opava , who since the season 2018/19 in the first Czech football league plays.

Club history

The predecessor of today's association was the German association Troppauer FV , founded in 1907 , from 1909 DSV Troppau and as such part of the associations that merged in 1939 to form NSTG Troppau . However, the official founding year of the SFC Opava is 1945, when a club called SK Slezan Opava was created, which however had nothing to do with the club of the same name, which existed from 1908 to 1931.

It was not until 1955 that the club, now renamed Baník Opava, played nationwide. In 1972 a new stadium could be completed; that year Opava rose to the then three-pronged 3rd division. In the first season, Ostroj Opava, as the club was now called, finished eleventh. After a reorganization of the Czechoslovak league system in 1977, the club was second class. The change was reversed in 1981, Opava had to relegate back to the third division. In 1985 Opava won Group B of the 3rd division and rose to the 2nd division (1.ČNL), in which the club always played in front in the following years. Ironically, in the 1992/93 season, in which six teams from the 2nd division were able to move up to the new Czech 1st division due to the upcoming division of Czechoslovakia , Opava only finished tenth. In the following season 1993/94 Opava escaped the rise by three points.

In 1995 the time had come when the club, renamed FC Kaučuk Opava, rose to the top Czech league. On July 30, 1995, however, they lost the opening game in front of 11,376 spectators with 1: 2 against Petra Drnovice . The season was still very successful, Opava finished sixth in the end, the best placement in the club's history to date.

1996/97 Opava played in the UEFA Intertoto Cup in a group with Kamas Nabereschnyje Tschelny , Spartak Warna , TSV 1860 Munich and ŁKS Łódź and finished in second place. In the league, Opava was ninth. In the following years Opava played against relegation, which could not be prevented in 2000, but the club succeeded in the immediate rise. The team was too weak for the Gambrinus League in 2000/01 and rose again from bottom of the table with just 18 points. The team rose again immediately. In 2004 the SFC Opava was able to keep the class, even if only barely.

In 2005 the team was again bottom of the table, which would have resulted in relegation to the second division. Over the years, the club had accumulated around two million euros in debt and, after a long, opaque summer theater, only reported the 5th division for the "Moravskoslezský Přebor". There the club managed to excuse debt, the team dominated the league at will and had an impressive record of 28 wins and two draws at the end of the season, so they remained unbeaten with 105 goals scored and only 11 goals conceded. In the summer of 2006, the SFC Opava bought the second division license from SK Hanácká Slavia Kroměříž and was back in the second division. From this one, however, had to relegate to the third-class Moravskoslezská fotbalová league as the table penultimate after the 2009/10 season , but as a master the immediate re-emergence succeeded. The 2012/13 season ended in 16th place in the table, which meant last place and thus relegation to the third division. In 2014 the SFC Opava returned as champions in the second division. In 2017/18 he returned to the Czech upper house as champions of the 2nd division.
