Pavel Hapal (born July 27, 1969 in Kroměříž , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech football player and today's coach .
Player career
Hapal began playing football with Sokol Břest, at the age of 13 he moved to SK Sigma Olomouc . After Bayer 04 Leverkusen left the 1992 UEFA Cup against Sigma Olomouc, Hapal was signed by Bayer due to his outstanding performance in the games against Leverkusen. With the proceeds from the transfer, Sigma Olomouc built a floodlight system in the Andrův stadium .
Hapal won the DFB Cup in 1992/93 with Bayer Leverkusen . He played a total of 86 Bundesliga games and scored 13 goals before leaving Leverkusen for Spain .
Coaching career
Most recently, Pavel Hapal was the coach of the Czech first division club Baník Ostrava , he was released on June 30, 2006. In the 2007/08 season Hapal coached the Slovak club FC Nitra , which he led to third place in the Corgoň league .
In the 2008/09 season Hapal coached FK Mladá Boleslav . Pavel Hapal has also been the assistant coach of the Czech national team since August 1st, 2008. Since 2009 he has been a coach and sports manager at the first division club MŠK Žilina , with whom he won the Slovakian championship title in 2010. In July 2011 his work in Žilina ended.
On October 31, 2011, Hapal signed a contract with the Polish first division club Zagłębie Lubin . Here he was ninth in the 2011/2012 season and his team was ninth in the 2012/2013 season. After two defeats at the start of the 2013/2014 season, Pavel Hapal was dismissed as coach of Zagłębie Lubin.
On October 23, 2018, Hapal was appointed coach of the Slovak national football team.
