The FK Senica is a Slovak football club from the western Slovakian town of Senica . The club was founded in 1921. In June 2009, FK Senica took over the first division license from FK Inter Bratislava and has been playing in the top division, the Fortuna league, since the 2009/10 season .

history

The FK Senica was founded in 1921 under the name Železná únia Senica . This was followed by renaming in AC Senica in 1928, in FC Senica in 1934, seven years later in ŠK Vískóza Senica , in 1945 in ŠK Chemické závody Senica and in 1948 in Sokol ChZ Hodváb Senica . The club first gained national importance in 1951 when it rose to the second highest division ( Krajské majstrovstvá ), which it had to leave in 1954.

After several years in the lower leagues, the team succeeded in the 1973/74 season, as already under the name SH Senica , the promotion to the fourth highest division, the Divízia . In the first year of relegation only succeeded on the last day of the game, in the 1975/76 season the team celebrated promotion to the third division, the 1st SNL , which one year later became one of the three seasons of the second highest after the national 2nd division was dissolved Czechoslovak league was.

Senica played second class until the 1992/93 season, which was also the last joint season for the Czechs and Slovaks . The last place in the 1st SNFL meant relegation to the newly created 3rd division of the now independent Slovakia. In the 1998/99 season the team rose to the second division, but two years later it was down again. In the 2001/02 season, the immediate resurgence succeeded, before the start of the 2002/03 second division season, the club merged with FK 96 Ress Častkov . The next relegation followed in 2003/04, in 2004/05 Senica was even passed into the 4th division. There the free fall was stopped for the time being, even if in the end only the 12th, 11th and 8th positions were recorded.

Before the 2008/09 season, Vladimír Levárský became a new sponsor , while Ladislav Hudec took over the coaching and sporting positions at the same time . Senica won the championship confidently and took over the license from Inter Bratislava in summer 2009, making the club first class for the first time in its club history. In the winter break of the 2009/10 season, coach Hudec was replaced by the Czech Radim Nečas . In 2010/11 the club was runner-up behind Slovan Bratislava and qualified for the European Cup for the first time . In the following two seasons they also took part in the Europa League .

After further good placements in the Fortuna league , they played against relegation for the first time in 2017/18 and were only able to hold the class in the two relegation games (A 1: 2, H 1: 0) thanks to the away goals rule against second division MFK Skalica .
