Stanislav Griga (born November 4, 1961 in Žilina ) is a Slovak football coach and former player.
Player career
Griga played at MŠK Žilina in his childhood and youth . Sparta Prague signed him for the 1981/1982 season . In 1986/1987 the striker played for Dukla Prague . He then returned to Sparta Prague. In 1990 Griga moved to Feyenoord Rotterdam . He went to Rapid Vienna in 1992 and ended his career there. He took part in the 1990 World Cup in Italy . Griga completed 246 games in the 1st Czechoslovak League and scored 123 goals. In his career he scored a total of 137 goals, including 120 for Sparta Prague, three for Dukla Prague, ten for Feyenoord Rotterdam and ten for Rapid Vienna. For Czechoslovakia he made 34 international matches in which he scored eight goals.
Coaching career
After retiring as a player, Griga worked as a lawyer for a year and a half . For the 1995/1996 season he took over the coaching position at the second division club MŠK Žilina , with whom he rose to the first division. He moved to FK AS Trenčín and repeated his previous year's success. In 1998 he became a coach at Slovan Bratislava , with whom he won the double . He then took over the Slovak U20 team and, after six months, the U21 national team. In December 2001 he went to FK ZTS Dubnica , which he left in autumn 2003 for health reasons. In December 2003 he accepted Slovan Liberec's offer and resigned in June 2005. In October 2005 Sparta Prague signed him as a new coach. On September 2, 2006 he was dismissed as coach of Sparta Prague after a moderate start to the season. For the 2007/08 season he took over the Prague first division promoted FK Viktoria Žižkov . After an unsuccessful start to the season, Griga was dismissed in early September 2008. Since May 2011 he was a coach at the Slovak first division club FK Senica . On April 26, 2012, he took up his post as coach of the Slovak national team , but was dismissed in June 2013 after a little more than a year of work.
