The FC Fastav Zlín is a Czech football club from the Moravian city of Zlín . He has played in the Synot Liga , the first Czech league , since his promotion in 2014/15 . It was founded in 1919 as SK Zlín.

Club history

Zlín was promoted to the first division in 1938. The club had previously become Moravian champions. He belonged to the top division until his exclusion due to result manipulation in 1947, the greatest success was the 2nd place behind Sparta Prague in the 1945/46 season. In 1951 they returned for a year. The club gave another one-year guest appearance in 1953 when it was awarded a place in the first division as a representative of light industry . However, the team was not first division and was relegated as the penultimate.

It was not until 1969 that they were promoted to the first division. A year later, TJ Gottwaldov achieved the greatest triumph in the club's history. After winning the Czech Cup (2-2 and 4-0 against LIAZ Jablonec ), the team also won the Czechoslovak Cup. After a 3: 3 in the first leg against Slovan Bratislava and a 0: 0 in the second leg in Gottwaldov, the team decided the penalty shoot-out 4-3. In the European Cup Winners' Cup in the following season 1970/71 Gottwaldov first won against Bohemians Dublin , in the second round the team only narrowly failed 2-1 and 0-1 at PSV Eindhoven . At the end of the season, the last place in the first division was to be booked, which meant relegation. 1973 followed the relegation to the 3rd division, only in 1981 TJ Gottwaldov managed to rise again to the 2nd division.

In 1993 the 6th place in the 2nd division was enough to qualify for the new Czech 1st division, but after only three years FC Svit Zlín rose again. The recovery succeeded in 2002, in the 2002/03 season, the FK Zlín finished seventh, just as a year later. In 2004 the club, now renamed FC Tescoma Zlín, started in the Intertoto Cup . In the first round, Zlín Myllykosken Pallo -47 from Finland defeated the Belgian KVC Westerlo in the second round . The team was only marginally defeated by Atlético Madrid in the third round . After a 2-4 home defeat, Zlín won 2-0 in the Spanish capital, but was eliminated due to the away goals rule . In the league it was enough in 2004/05 to a tenth place. In 2005 Zlín took part again in the Intertoto Cup. After a first round success over Neman Grodno , Tescoma was eliminated by AA Gent . In 2008/09 the club had to be 15. accept the relegation from the first division and failed in the following season as third only narrowly on promotion.

In the 2014/15 season, Zlín managed to return to the top division of the Czech Republic as third, as the second-placed FK Varnsdorf, who was actually eligible for promotion , was denied the license.

In May 2017, Zlín won the Czech Cup competition for the second time and qualified directly for the group stage of the Europa League because Manchester United won the Europa League and Slavia Prague became Czech champions at the same time . In the Europa League, Zlín meets FC Copenhagen , Lokomotiv Moscow and Sheriff Tiraspol .
