Dynamo Budweis , officially: SK Dynamo České Budějovice as , is a Czech football club from the South Bohemian city of Budweis .

Club history

Football was played in Budweis from 1898. A club was founded in 1905, it remained without national success for a long time, it was not until the early 1930s that he played for the Czechoslovak amateur championship. Then he just missed promotion to the first division in five consecutive years. In 1934 the club's management decided to introduce professionalism. The promotion to the first division was only possible in 1947, but as the penultimate 1948 Dynamo had to relegate again. The return to the top division succeeded in 1985. In this season, the team also reached the Czech Cup final, but lost there to Dukla Prague . This time the club was able to stay in the first division for two years. The next promotion followed in 1991. Again the team advanced to the final of the Czech Cup, but this time had to admit defeat Baník Ostrava . In the first season of the independent Czech league in 1993/94, the South Bohemians surprisingly landed in sixth place , mainly thanks to a young player named Karel Poborský . Although other top performers left the team in addition to Poborský, she finished seventh in 1994/95. After finishing eleventh in the following year, Dynamo repeated their three-year-old success in 1996/97 with sixth place. To this day, it is the greatest success in the club's history.

In the following years Dynamo Budweis became an " elevator team ", descents and ascents were repeated almost every year. During the winter break of 2004/05, the club achieved a spectacular coup by signing international Karel Poborský, who had terminated his contract with Sparta Prague in a dispute . He was instrumental in the return to the Gambrinus League . It is noteworthy that Poborský himself is the association's chairman .
