Jiří Němec (born May 15, 1966 in Pacov ) is a former Czechoslovak or Czech football player and today's coach .
Player career
Němec started playing football in 1974 in Pacov, his birthplace. As a 15-year-old he moved to Dynamo Budweis . From 1987 to 1990 he played for Dukla Prague , after which he moved to city rivals Sparta .
In 1993 FC Schalke 04 got him . The midfielder made 256 games (6 goals) in the Bundesliga for the Gelsenkirchen team . With Schalke, he won the UEFA Cup in 1997 and the DFB Cup in 2001 and 2002 . In 1997 he was voted Czech Footballer of the Year. In 2002 he returned to his homeland and signed for one season with FK Chmel Blšany . In 2003 he moved to Sparta Prague and in 2004 to FK Viktoria Žižkov . In 2005 he went back to Sparta Prague, but there was only for the B team. In the summer of the same year, it looked as if the now 39-year-old Němec would end his career after failing to agree on a contract with third division team Bohemians in 1905 . Finally, he played in 2005/06 for the fourth division club FK Dobrovice.
From 1990 to 2001 he played 84 times in the Czech national team , with which he took part in the 1990 World Cup (no use) and the 1996 and 2000 European Championships . The 1-0 win in the 2-2 draw against South Korea on May 27, 1998 was his only goal in the jersey of the national team, which he captained the field 36 times. His greatest success with the national team was second place at the European Championships in 1996.
At the annual general meeting on May 10, 2010, Němec was appointed to the Schalke dressing room .
Coaching career
In the summer of 2006 he became an assistant coach at Dukla Prague. By working with the second division Jakubčovice Fotbal went günter bittengel , by then head coach at Dukla after Jakubčovice nad Odrou , Nemec took over the team. After Dukla took over the license from Jakubčovice Fotbal, Bittengel returned to Prague and Němec became his assistant coach again. In the 2007/08 season Němec trained Duklas B team, the following year he was active in the junior division of Sparta Prague . For the 2010/11 season he was assistant coach at SK Kladno .
Private life
Němec's son Patrick (* 1996) was born in Gelsenkirchen. In the 2012/13 season he played in the offspring of FC Schalke 04, in the following season for Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. He has been playing for Ratingen 04/19 since summer 2016 .
