The FK Chmel Blšany is a Czech football club .
It is based in the town of Blšany (German: Flöhau bei Podersam), in a hop-growing area ( Chmel, Czech for hops ) in Okres Louny . From 1998/99 to 2005/06 Blšany played in the first division . The name František Chvalovský is inextricably linked to the rise of the club . The goalkeeper and later president of the club and the Czech football association ČMFS was a successful entrepreneur and patron of the club and responsible for its advancement.
Club history
In 1972/73 Sokol Blšany played in the 8th league ( okresní přebor ) in what was then Czechoslovakia . The club spent the next decade in the 7th division ( 1.B třída ) before moving up to the 6th division ( 1.A třída ) in 1982/83 . Then it went steeply uphill. Promotions in 1985, 1988, 1990, 1993 and 1998 brought the small village club up to the top Czech league, the Gambrinus League .
In the first year in the upper house, the hop growers achieved a surprising 6th place. The club, which was renamed Chmel Blšany in the early 1990s, could never repeat this success and in recent years always played against relegation, which he was able to avoid year after year, before moving to the second division in the 2005/06 game year had to compete.
For the 2007/2008 season the club was denied the license for the second division, he then entered the third Czech division, the ČFL, and was relegated at the end of the season. In the 2008/09 season, the club played in the fourth Czech division, but could not hold this class and slipped into the fifth division. For the 2011/12 season, however, the promotion to the 4th league succeeded again.
