Zdeněk Ščasný (born August 9, 1957 in Brno , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech football player and current football coach .

Player career

Zdeněk Ščasný played for Spartak Roudnice nad Labem in his youth . At the age of 17 he moved to Dukla Prague , where he spent the next four years and made his debut in the top Czechoslovak league. In 1979 the defender moved to Sparta Prague , where he stayed until 1985. In 1980 Ščasný won the Czechoslovak Cup with Sparta , and in 1985 the Czechoslovak Championship. In the 1983/84 season Sparta won the championship and cup double.

In early 1985, Zdeněk Ščasný moved again within Prague and joined Bohemians , for whom he played 56 games in four and a half seasons. Zdeněk Ščasný went to the then second division club Agro Slušovice in 1989 , he let his career end from 1991 to 1993 at the Cypriot club Anagennisis Derynia .

Coaching career

In Derynia , Zdeněk Ščasný initially looked after the youth, later he was a player- coach for the first team. After returning to the Czech Republic in 1993, he was initially a player- coach at SK Roudnice nad Labem for two years , before he finally ended his playing career and took over the coaching position at the then second division club Chmel Blšany , where he did not stay long. Then he also trained the FK GGS Arma Ústí nad Labem for only a few months .

In summer 1996 he became assistant coach at Sparta Prague , in January 1998 he took over the post of head coach and led the team to the Czech championship. He repeated this success in the 1998/99 season, but then went to Viktoria Žižkov , where he stayed until 2002.

Zdeněk Ščasný worked for OFI Crete for the next one and a half years before he took over the coaching position at the Greek top club Panathinaikos in October 2004 . In February 2005, however, Ščasný was released. He returned to the Czech Republic, from December 2005 to June 2007 he coached the team of FK SIAD Most . In September 2007 he took over FK Mladá Boleslav . After a 4-1 defeat by Sparta Prague , he resigned on March 18, 2008.

In early November 2008, FK Viktoria Žižkov turned to Ščasný to save the team for the remaining 16 games from the threat of relegation to the 2nd division . But he could no longer save the club.

At the end of 2010 he signed a two-year contract with the reigning Hungarian champions Debreceni VSC . However, since the results were unsuccessful, he left the club in April 2011.

From October 2012 to 2015 he was a coach at FK Teplice . He has been in charge of Sparta Prague since 2015 .
