Jan Velkoborský (born July 14, 1975 in Pilsen ) is a Czech football player .
Career
Jan Velkoborský started playing football at the age of six with Viktoria Plzen . At the age of 18 he moved to TJ Svéradice. He did his military service in the clubs VTJ Stříbro and VTJ Karlovy Vary. In 1995 Velkoborský, who was mostly used in midfield at that time , returned to Pilsen , but initially played for 1. FC Pilsen.
After a few months he was brought back by Viktoria Pilsen and made his debut in November 1995 in the 1st Czech league. Velkoborský spent the second part of the 1995/96 season at FK Tachov. He was then loaned to 1. FC Pilsen again, this time he stayed for half a year. At the beginning of 1997, Velkoborský's Odyssey was over for the time being, he returned to Viktoria Pilsen and fought for a regular place. In two and a half years, the 1.90 meter tall Velkoborský completed 65 games and scored six goals. In the summer of 1999 he was signed by Chmel Blšany , where he developed into one of the best defenders in the league.
On August 15, 2001 Velkoborský made his debut in a friendly against South Korea in the Czech national team . Velkoborský completed his second and last international match on September 5, 2001 in qualifying for the 2002 World Cup against Malta .
During this time both Slavia Prague and FK Teplice were interested in the defender, but there was no change. It was not until the beginning of 2003 that Velkoborský left Blšany when he was loaned to the German second division club LR Ahlen . After 42 games in a year and a half, Velkoborský moved to Baník Ostrava in the summer of 2004 , but he could not prevail against the then Czech champions. After half a year he went to Viktoria Žižkov in the 2nd division. In July 2005 Velkoborský returned to Ahlen and signed a two-year contract. The team was trained at this time by the Czech coach František Straka .
After the relegation of LR Ahlen to the Regionalliga Nord at the end of the 2005/06 season, Velkoborský moved to SV Elversberg in the Regionalliga Süd . When he was retired from Elversberg in 2008, he moved to the 3rd Czech league to VTJ Karlovy Vary, where he played from 1994 to 1995. From 2009 to August 2013 Velkoborský played for 1. FC Bad Kötzting . On March 11, 2012 he tore his cruciate ligament in a game against SSV Jahn Regensburg II , which put him out of action for over a year. While Velkoborský was still recovering from his injury, he took over the position of head coach at FCK in October 2012 and led the club from a relegation place to the secured midfield of the table. He has been a player for 1. FC Zandt since August 2013. In June 2014 he took over as player-coach for the district division SV Neubäu.
