Viktoria Pilsen rose to the top Czechoslovak league for the first time in 1931 and stayed there until 1938. The best place was a third place in 1933. A renewed promotion was achieved in 1945, followed by relegation in 1952, and again third place in the 1947 season was the best result. Pilsen gave further guest performances in 1961/62, 1962/63, 1967/68 and 1970/71.
This season the club won the Czech cup competition. In the first leg of the final it was only enough at home to draw against the B-team from Sparta Prague . When after a 3: 3 in the second leg in Prague the penalty shoot-out ended 5: 5, the lot Škoda Plzeň determined the winner. In the final of the Czechoslovak Cup, Škoda Plzeň had no chance against Spartak Trnava , but since the Slovaks had also become champions, Škoda Plzeň had the right to start as an inferior finalist in the European Cup Winners' Cup , and that as a second division. The opponent in the first round was Bayern Munich . In Pilsen, the team led by Franz Beckenbauer won 1-0, in the second leg FC Bayern defeated Škoda Plzeň by a clear 6-1.
Only from 1972 could Škoda Plzeň establish itself a little longer in the first division, the next relegation followed in 1980. 1985 the club was back in the first division. The descent was followed by an immediate ascent in 1988 and this again by an immediate descent.
In 1993 Viktoria Pilsen qualified as third in the 2nd division for the Czech 1st division, in whose first season the team took an excellent fifth place. After various midfield placements in 1999 came relegation to the 2nd division. As in the mid- 1980s , Pilsen became an elevator crew . In 2000 the team was promoted, only to be relegated immediately. The next promotion followed in 2003, but this time too Viktoria was only able to stay in the House of Lords for one season.
In 2005, the club unexpectedly managed the next promotion. After the withdrawal of 1. FK Drnovice from the first division, a third place was enough to qualify for the Gambrinus League . In the 2009/10 season, the club qualified as the Czech cup winner for the third qualifying round for the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League .
