Roman Lengyel (born November 3, 1978 in České Budějovice ) is a Czech football player .

Club career

Lengyel began playing football at Lokomotiva České Budějovice, at the age of eight he moved to Dynamo České Budějovice . At the beginning of 1997 he was accepted into the professional squad. In the Gambrinus Liga , the defender made his debut on March 7, 1997 in the home game against Slavia Prague . In the following season 1997/98 Lengyel fought for a regular place, but the team rose from the first division. In the second division season 1998/99, the defensive specialist came on 25 missions in which he scored six goals and thus helped his team to immediate promotion.

With his good performance in the 1999/00 preliminary round, he drew the attention of Sparta Prague , which finally signed him for twelve million crowns. In Prague Lengyel could not prevail due to injury problems and moved in November 2001 to league rivals FK Teplice . In Teplice, the defender played again regularly.

In January 2004 Lengyel moved to the Russian first division club Saturn Ramenskoje , which also signed his compatriot Antonín Kinský from FC Slovan Liberec . At the Moscow suburb club Lengyel was mostly only a substitute and only made three league appearances. After just one season he left Ramenskoye and moved to Kuban Krasnodar shortly before the start of the Russian second division , which was then trained by the Czech Jozef Chovanec . Krasnodar rose with Lengyel in the core formation 2006 in the Premjer League 2007 , but immediately from again.

National team

In 1997 Lengyel played four times for the Czech U18s and once for the U20s . Between 1998 and 2000 he played 24 times in the U21 national team, his last game was the European Championship final in 2000 , which was lost to Italy. He also took part in the Olympic Games in Sydney in the summer of 2000 , where he played all the preliminary round games for the Czech team, which did not get beyond the group games.
