The FK Kuban Krasnodar ( Russian Футбольный клуб Кубань Краснодар ; scientific transliteration : Futbol'nyj klub Kuban 'Krasnodar ) was a Russian football club in the southern Russian city of Krasnodar on the Kuban .
history
Soviet Union
The association was founded in 1928. The team played in at least semi-professional leagues since the post-war period, mostly in the Soviet second division - but the club was the Soviet first division for three seasons from 1980 to 1982 . After relegation in 1982, Kuban Krasnodar initially no longer made it to the top division, and only after the dissolution of the Soviet Union did Kuban play first-class again.
Russia
1992–2003: In the lower leagues
The team from southern Russia was one of the founding members of the newly created Russian Supreme League after the collapse of the Soviet Union . After the disappointing 1992 season, the team finished 18th in the relegation round and had to relegate to the second-class 1st division . In the next season, the immediate relegation to the 2nd division followed , where the team spent two seasons. From 1996 to 1998, when the disappointing 20th place in the table was occupied, the team played second class again. The team spent the next two seasons in the third-class 2nd division. After the promotion in 2000 Kuban Krasnodar immediately belonged to the top teams of the 1st division. First in 2001 the third place in the table was fought. In 2002 the club came third. In 2003 the runner-up in the 1st division followed and the associated promotion to the Premjer League.
2003–2010: ascents and descents
It was not until the 2004 season , after an eleven year absence, that Kuban Krasnodar played first class again. However, occupied the penultimate place in the table and was relegated again. After fifth place in 2005, Kuban won runner-up in the 1st division in 2006 and returned to the Premjer League. The 2007 season ended the club again on the penultimate place in the table, which led to relegation. In 2008 and 2009 the story of ascent and descent was repeated. In 2008, the runner-up in the 1st division was won - Kuban rose. In 2009 the disappointing penultimate place in the table was reached - Kuban was relegated. The rise followed in 2010 . The club developed into the Russian elevator team in the 21st century with seven league changes between 2003 and 2010.
2011–2016: First appearance on the European football stage
In the transition season 2011/12 Kuban played first class again and fought for eighth place in the table. In the Premjer-Liga 2012/13 the fifth place in the table was occupied, which entitled to the first participation in the UEFA Europa League . After successes in the third qualifying round against FC Motherwell , as well as in the playoff round against Feyenoord Rotterdam , the team only failed in the group stage of the competition. In Group A, Kuban Krasnodar took third place in the table behind FC Valencia and Swansea City and ahead of FC St. Gallen . In 2015, Kuban Krasnodar was in the final of the national soccer cup, which was lost 3-1 after extra time against the capital's Lokomotiv Moscow club in Astrakhan on May 21. In 2016 , FK Kuban had to relegate to Tom Tomsk , lost to the club from Western Siberia and relegated to the second-class 1st division after five seasons in the Premjer League. In June 2016, the Romanian Dan Petrescu took over the post of head coach at Kuban, but was dismissed on October 4, 2016 due to continued unsuccessfulness.
FK Kuban Krasnodar was dissolved in mid-2018 after bankruptcy .

The club played its home games in the 31,654-seat Kuban Stadium , which was built in 1960.
