Pavlo Jakowenko ( Ukrainian Павло Олександрович Яковенко , Russian Павел Александрович Яковенко ; born December 19, 1964 in Nikopol , Ukrainian SSR ) is a former Soviet-Ukrainian soccer player and current soccer player.
Yakovenko started his career as a football player in 1981 in the team of Metalist Kharkiv . In 1982 he moved to Dynamo Kiev and was three times Soviet champions and three times Soviet cup winners with this team in the following years . In the 1985/86 season he won the European Cup Winners' Cup with Dynamo .
For the Soviet national team Jakowenko played a total of 19 times between 1986 and 1990 and scored one goal. He took part in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico , in which the midfielder was used three times and also scored his only goal for the national team in the game against Hungary.
Due to several injuries Jakowenko came after 1988 only sporadically to appearances in the regular team of Dynamo Kiev and in the national team. In 1992 he moved to France for FC Sochaux , but due to an injury he was rarely used there and ended his active career at the beginning of the 1993/94 season.
From 1994 Jakowenko initially coached lower-class Ukrainian and Russian clubs, including FK Elista . From 2000 he coached the Ukrainian U-19 and from 2002 the Ukrainian U-21 national team .
Between 2004 and 2007 Jakowenko was the head coach of several clubs in the Russian Premjer League , so he coached FK Chimki , FK Kuban Krasnodar and FK Rostov .
Since 2008 Pawel Jakowenko has been responsible for the Ukrainian U-21 national team again.
His son Olexandr (* 1987) is a Ukrainian national player .
