Sani Kaita (born May 2, 1986 in Kano ) is a Nigerian soccer player . The Nigerian international is currently on loan with Iraklis Thessaloniki .
Club career
The defensive midfielder moved to Sparta Rotterdam for the 2005/06 season from his home country, where he last played for Kano Pillars . Even though he was only a substitute player for the Dutch first division club for three years, he moved to the established French club AS Monaco in 2008 .
There he played only three league appearances in the first half of the 2008/09 season , which caused him to leave the club in early 2009 on loan to FK Kuban Krasnodar . At the Russian club he was able to play in the starting line-up immediately.
However, he left the club, which was fighting for relegation, in the summer of 2009 to join league competitor Lokomotiv Moscow on loan . Only three league appearances and half a year later he changed club again. The next loan deal followed, this time he came to the North Ossetian club Alania Wladikawkas .
National team career
With the Nigerian U-20 selection, Kaita reached the final of the Junior World Cup in 2005 , where Nigeria lost 2-1 to Argentina. Kaita was used in all seven games of the tournament.
He made his international debut for his country's A-selection in 2005 in the game against Libya , and since then he has appeared in 19 internationals. So far he has taken part in the African Cup of Nations twice with Nigeria . Both times, 2006 and 2010 , Kaita and his team won the bronze medal. However, he was only a regular on his last participation.
In addition, Kaita moved into the final at the 2008 Summer Olympics and failed there again with Nigeria at the Argentine selection, so that he was only able to win the silver medal again.
In 2010 Lars Lagerbäck appointed him to the Nigerian squad for the 2010 World Cup . There he stood out negatively in the second group game against Greece . After a duel on the sidelines, Kaita kicked his opponent Vasilios Torosidis , who then went down. As a result, Kaita was sent off with red in the 33rd minute and his leading team at the time lost 2-1.
