The 15th FIFA Youth World Cup (officially FIFA World Youth Championship Netherlands 2005 ) was from 10 June to 2 July 2005 in the Netherlands instead. 24 countries, including the host Netherlands, the defending champions Brazil, Germany and Switzerland, took part in the tournament.

Argentina won their fifth World Cup title with a 2-1 win in the final against Nigeria and are now the sole record world champions again. Third place went to defending champions Brazil , who also defeated Morocco 2-1. The top scorer was Argentine striker Lionel Messi from FC Barcelona with six goals .

The German team lost in the quarter-finals to the later third-placed Brazil, while Switzerland was eliminated in the preliminary round as the bottom group. Austria could not qualify for the World Cup finals.
