Ryan Guno Babel (born December 19, 1986 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch football player of Surinamese descent. He is under contract with Galatasaray Istanbul and was loaned out to Ajax Amsterdam for the second half of the 2019/20 season. He is also a Dutch international.

Babel started playing football at SV Diemen and then moved to Fortius Amsterdam . After he failed at the first attempt to join his dream club Ajax Amsterdam , he was discovered by the Ajax scouts in 1998 and joined the Ajax youth team. As a 16-year-old, he was already in the first team. With the U19 he was able to win the A youth championship title two years later and finally made his first division debut in 2004 .

From the 2004/05 season Babel was regularly used in the first team, scored 24 goals in 111 competitive games and was able to prepare eleven. With Ajax he won the national championship title once, the KNVB Cup twice and the Dutch Supercup three times in a row . For the 2007/08 season , the attacker moved to Liverpool for € 18 million and signed a five-year contract there. On September 1, 2007 he managed his first Premier League goal against Derby County .

In January 2011, Babel moved to the Bundesliga for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim . He signed a contract for two and a half years until June 30, 2013 with an option for a further year and was given the number 10. His first competitive appearance was on January 26, 2011 in the DFB Cup quarter-final at FC Energie Cottbus . In his tenth Bundesliga game he scored his first goal for Hoffenheim on April 9, 2011 at SC Freiburg ; TSG still lost 2: 3. On August 29, 2012, Babel agreed with the association to terminate the contract.

Babel then returned to Ajax Amsterdam in the summer of 2012. He signed a one-year contract and played 22 compulsory games, in which, however, he only got five goals and seven assists. For the second time, the winger won the championship with the capitals, but failed in the Champions League in the group stage.

In the summer of 2013 he moved to the Turkish Süper Lig at Kasımpaşa Istanbul . He signed a three-year contract with the Istanbul team. For the Turkish first division club, he made 58 first division appearances in two seasons and scored 14 goals. In the summer of 2015 he went to the Arab al Ain Club . After only eight appearances in a year, the winger joined Deportivo La Coruña , with whom he was only tenth in the table.

In January 2017 Babel moved back to the Süper Lig to Beşiktaş Istanbul and won the Turkish championship with the team in the spring. In mid-January 2019, a six-month loan to the Premier League promoted Fulham FC was announced. With the Londoners Babel rose at the end of the season as the bottom of the table.

On June 28, 2019, Galatasaray Istanbul announced the Dutchman's engagement. He signed a three-year contract with the yellow-reds . Before the start of the season, Babel won the national Super Cup with the Turks and started the season as a regular. He missed leaving the Champions League as bottom of the group due to a knee injury, but was able to recover during the winter break.

At the beginning of January 2020, a loan deal followed until the end of the season with Babel's old club Ajax Amsterdam.

In his first race for the Dutch national football team on 26 March 2005 (2: 0 win against Romania ), the leading U21 European Champion of 2007 equal with a gate, and at age 18 he was about the youngest national team scorer for over 60 years. He was part of the Dutch squad for the 2006 World Cup in Germany , where he came on as a substitute in the first round match against Argentina . Babel was the youngest player in the Dutch team , ahead of his club colleague Hedwiges Maduro .

Ryan Babel was called up in the course of the nomination for the EM 2008 in the squad, but injured himself during training on May 31, 2008 and pulled a ligament tear in his ankle. A few days later he was appointed to the expanded Olympic squad for the Beijing Games . Later it came to the final nomination for the Olympics. In the quarter-finals, the team was eliminated against eventual winners Argentina.

The striker had to follow the 2010 World Cup in South Africa from the bench, Oranje made it to the final, but lost to Spain there .

On June 21, 2008, the Dutch rapper Darryl released the song "Eeyeeyo" together with Ryan Babel and two other Dutch artists.

At the beginning of 2010 Babel (aka Rio) brought out the piece Misgunners together with JR ( Vurnon Anita ), Lerra F ( Leroy Fer ) & Priester ( Mitchell Burgzorg ) . This number is a remix of Drake's "Forever" .
