The UAE Arabian Gulf League ( Arabic دوري الخليج العربي, DMG Daurī al-Ḫalīǧ al-ʿarabī ) is the top division in football in the United Arab Emirates . It was founded in 1973 and is now one of the most popular and best leagues in Asia . Until 2009 it was called the UAE League or Etisalat National League . The reigning master is the al-Jazira Club . The record champions are the al Ain Club with 13 championships .
As the host country of the FIFA Club World Cups in 2009 and 2010, Al-Ahli took part in the qualifying game of the Club World Cup in 2009 and reached the quarter-finals. In 2010, Al-Wahda qualified for the Club World Cup by winning the title. The master also qualifies for the UAE Arabian Gulf Super Cup .
Game mode
The league is played back and forth with 14 teams, with each team playing against each other twice. The two best placed at the end of a season, plus the cup winners qualify directly for the AFC Champions League , the third has to qualify. The last two clubs are relegated to the First Division immediately .
