The Baniyas SC ( Arabic نادي بني ياس الرياضي, also Bani Yas ) is a sports club from Abu Dhabi , United Arab Emirates . The football division of the club, which was founded in 1982, plays in the country's highest league, the UAE Arabian Gulf League . The current trainer is Winfried Schäfer .
The greatest success of the seven-time champion is victory in the GCC Champions League 2013 under coach Jozef Chovanec . In the 2010/11 season, the club had already managed to qualify as runners-up for the 2012 AFC Champions League , in which the round of 16 was reached, in the second year after being promoted from the 2nd division . As fourth-placed club in the 2012/13 season, the club also qualified for the 2014 AFC Champions League .
