Jorvan Vieira (born May 24, 1953 in Duque de Caxias ) is a former Brazilian soccer player and coach.

Career

He played in Brazil for the clubs CR Vasco da Gama , Botafogo and Portuguesa , but ended his career early and became a coach. In 1980 he coached the Qatar Sports Club for a year before becoming the national coach of the U20s of Oman. After a short time in this position, he moved to Morocco for eight years and looked after various clubs there. With FAR Rabat he was Moroccan champion in 1987 and 1989, and Moroccan cup winner in 1986. He also coached the clubs Wydad Casablanca , Tihad Sportif and IR Tanger .

At the 1986 World Cup , he was assistant coach of the Moroccan national team under his compatriot José Faria , which was the first African team to reach the second round of a world championship.

In 1999 he led Al Qadsia Kuwait to the national championship, in the following season he coached the Egyptian club Ismaily SC and at the same time again the U20 of Oman. He then became the coach of the Malaysia U20, but after a while he returned to Oman and won the Oman Cup with Al-Nasr . In 2006 he trained in Saudi Arabia Al-Ta'ee , but was dismissed there for failure.

In May 2007, two months before the start of the 2007 Asian Cup , he became the national coach of the Iraqi national team , with which he won the Asian Cup for the first time in Iraq's history. In February 2008 he took over the Iranian first division club Sepahan Isfahan as coach, but after moderate success in the AFC Champions League he was sacked in June of the same year.

In September 2008 he returned to the Iraqi national team, and signed a one-year contract with the Iraqi Football Association . After only four months, however, Vieira was dismissed due to the preliminary round at the golf cup .
