history
When it was founded, the league initially consisted of teams from high schools, universities and the police. Al-Arabi was one of the exceptions and dominated from the start of the league in the 1960s. The club won the first championship in 1962 without losing points and defended the title in 1963. From the 1963/64 season onwards, only sports and football clubs took part.
In the 1970s, Al Qadsia Kuwait and Al Kuwait Kaifan alternately dominated the league. Both clubs and their players formed the basis for the golden generation of the Kuwaiti national soccer team . Players like Jassem Al Yaqoub , Hammad Bu Hammad , Faisal ad-Dachil , Abdulaziz Al-Anberi and Ahmed Al-Tarabulsi helped the national team reach the final of the Asian Football Cup in 1976 and win in 1980. In 1982 the selection qualified for the soccer World Cup in Spain. The decade of the 1980s belonged again to Al Arabi with seven championships won. At the end of the 1989/1990 season, Al Jahra won the first club that did not come from Kuwait City . In 1990 there was no championship because of the Gulf War . There have always been changes in the league's past. Sometimes you played with 14 teams, sometimes with 7 or 8.
mode
The league is played with eight teams in the round two, with each team competing against each other. The champions and the cup winners qualify for the AFC Cup . The last placed in the league is relegated to the 2nd division.
