The Oman Professional League (short: OPL ) is Oman's national premier football league. Since 2013 it has been held as a pure professional league. The record champion and current defending champion is the Dhofar SCSC with ten championships.
history
Five years after the first edition of the Sultan Qaboos Cup , the soccer competition was held unofficially for the first time in 1975/76 and has been Oman's official championship since 1976. In the first two seasons of the then new championship Fanja SC won the title (the first 1975/76 is not counted in the statistics as unofficial). Until the end of the 1980s, the championship was held under the name Super League . Telecommunications company Omantel has been the league's main sponsor since the 2008/09 season .
Before the 2013/14 season it was announced that the league would henceforth be played as a professional league. After the league had borne the name of the sponsors in previous years, the league has since been called the Oman Professional League .
