The National Premier League (long name Khurkhree National Premier League ) is the top division of the Mongolian Football Federation , the national football association of Mongolia .

history

1955 saw the first national football championship. As early as 1946, a football competition was played as part of the first Mongolian Spartakiad . The semi-professional National Premier League was played for the first time in 1996. Before that, the football championship consisted of provincial teams ( aimags ) and government teams (military, police, etc.).

The mode of competition changed from time to time. In some seasons, the game was played in several groups, the top-ranked clubs then faced each other in a knockout system . In other seasons, the tournament was played in a group in a round - robin tournament , sometimes with play-off rounds afterwards. Three points are awarded for a win, one point for a draw and no point for a loss. In 2006 the soccer championship was not held as a normal competition, but in two phases with four groups. The reason was the reconstruction of what was then the only football stadium in Mongolia. The 2006 championship therefore does not count as an official championship.

From 2012 to 2014 the division was called Niislel Lig . It has had its current name since 2015 and is played in a single-track round-robin tournament with a return leg. The club with the best points at the end of the season is the Mongolian football champion and has qualified for the AFC Cup since 2015 . The two worst clubs at the end of the season are relegated to the second-rate 1st League . The season currently starts in April and ends at the end of September.
