The Roshan Afghan Premier League , also League Bartar Afghanistan Roshan , is the highest and first professional football league in Afghanistan . It was founded on July 9, 2012 , following the decision of the Afghanistan Football Federation .

In the Afghan Premier League, the Afghan football champions are played in a round- robin tournament system during the group phase, followed by a knockout system with semi-finals and final. The most successful participant is Shaheen Asmayee with four titles won, followed by Tofan Harirod with three championships.

history

The Afghan Premier League is the successor to the Afghanistan Premier League . Each of the newly founded clubs represents a region of Afghanistan in the league. Some of the teams have names of birds of prey such as Simorgh or Shaheen or Şahin , but also names of mythologically and historically significant places, mountains and rivers, e.g. B. Asmayee or Maiwand .

To find the players for the clubs in the 2012 season , the Afghanistan Football Federation, together with the media group Moby Group , to which several television and radio stations belong, carried out a casting show under the name Maidan e Sabz (English title Green Field , German 'Grünes Field '). A jury made up of former Afghan players and coaches examined the participants for stamina, playing ability and psyche. At the end of eight shows broadcast by Tolo TV , the jury selected 15 players for the teams. The remaining three players per team were selected by SMS voting by the studio and television audience. However, there was a dispute about the selection principle, as it was said that “it is not the best talents in the country who will play in the end”, but “mainly the sons of influential families”.

Therefore, SMS voting was abolished for the 2013 season. The selection system was also expanded to include regional tournaments, at the climax of which 26 selected players competed against each other. In addition, the jury was no longer responsible for selecting the 18 players, but the responsible coach.

Mode and Orientation

The first season of the APL was played in tournament form from September to October 2012. The eight participating teams - one from each of the country's regions - played in a total of 16 games in a group stage followed by the semi-finals and finals for the Afghan championship. The venue for the matches was the Afghanistan Football Federation Stadium in Kabul. The second season was also played in tournament form, but there was now a return game in the semi-finals and thus 18 instead of 16 games. The league is sponsored by the telecommunications company Roshan , which is why it was named Roshan Afghan Premier League .

reporting

For the first time, the games will be broadcast on television ; all encounters are shown by the private broadcasters Tolo TV and Lemar TV . In addition, two of Afghanistan's leading radio stations, Arman FM and Arakozia FM , will broadcast the games on the radio.
