Hashmatullah "Hashmat" Mohammad Barekzai (born June 4, 1987 in Kabul , Afghanistan ) is an Afghan football player who is currently under contract with Shaheen Asmayee .
Club career
Barekzai has been active for the Kabul club FC Kabul Bank since 2004 and was the Afghan champion in 2009, 2010 and 2012. In 2007 he and his team were runner-up and top scorer in the Afghanistan Premier League . In 2008 he was again the top scorer with eight goals. In May 2013, when the Kabul Cup was won and he was also the top scorer, Barekzai left the club after 178 goals in 156 games.
For the 2013 season, Hashmatullah Barekzai moved to Kabul first division club Shaheen Asmayee . There he immediately became a crowd favorite and regular player. At the end of the season, Shaheen Asmayee became champions, and Barekzai was named top scorer (alongside Hamidullah Karimi ) with seven goals in six games and also named Player of the Season.
Because of his achievements, he aroused the interest of foreign clubs, and so Barekzai signed on October 31, 2013 a contract with the Indian first division club Mumbai FC . In his first game against Bengaluru FC (2: 2) he was able to score a goal when he scored the 1: 1 in the 9th minute. Since his salary was not paid, he terminated his contract in early December 2013 after only one month and three appearances in the I-League .
For the 2014 season he returned to Shaheen Asmayee in the APL. In the first game against De Abasin Sape (5-1) he scored two goals and two assists . At the end of the season they were again Afghan champions after a 3-2 win in the final against Oqaban Hindukush ; Barekzai scored the winning goal in the 92nd minute. With a total of five goals, the striker finished second on the goalscorer list.
After finishing second in the 2015 season , they won the Afghan championship again in the following season . With a total of 18 goals at the end of the 2016 season, he caught Hamidullah Karimi as the record scorer in the Afghan Premier League.
National team
In the Afghan national team Barekzai made his debut in 2007. In 2011 he was runner- up at the South Asian Cup after a 4-0 defeat in the final against India. Two years later, India returned the favor with a 2-0 victory in the final, and Afghanistan won its first international title.
On March 29, 2015, Barekzai announced his retirement from the national team as one of seven national players. Team-internal difficulties were given as the reason.
