All games were played in the Ghazi Stadium , as there was no other usable stadium and only teams from Kabul took part.

history

An Afghan Premier League already existed from 1946 to 1955. The only winner during this period was Ariana Kabul FC , who have been Afghan champions ten times in a row. From 1956 to 1968 there was no Afghan Premier League. For the 1968/69 season, Afghan league football was played again for the first time, initially with two clubs (Habbibiya and Pas Kabul), and from 1978 with 16 clubs. From 1984, with the height of the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan and its consequences, including the civil war until 1996, regular football could not be played.

A year earlier, the Afghanistan Premier League was founded a third time, champion this season was Karlappan . Under the rule of the Taliban from 1996 football was allowed as one of the few sports, but the popularity of this sport was exploited to spread propaganda during the half-time breaks and to carry out public executions in front of thousands of spectators. Other champions up to 2012 were Maiwand Kabul , Red Crescent Society, Ordu Kabul FC and FC Kabul Bank . On July 9, 2012, the league's successor, the Afghan Premier League , was founded. The Afghanistan Premier League continued as the Kabul Premier League as a league for clubs only from Kabul .
