The Bangladesh Premier League , known for many years as the B.League - the name B.League was transferred to a national competition for Japanese basketball teams - is the top division in Bangladeshi football . The national association BFF is responsible for the league . The championship will be played with eleven teams in home and return matches. The master of the country, currently Abahani Ltd. Dhaka , is eligible to participate in the AFC President's Cup . The bottom of the table is relegated to the Dhaka League at the end of the season and the top eight in the league automatically qualify for the Bangladesh Super Cup.

history

The National Championship League was formed from the Dhaka League in 1999/00, before the National Association decided to introduce a professional league in 2006. The B. League was originally supposed to start in September 2006. Due to problems with the stadiums and the registration of players, the start was postponed until March 2007. The league was intended for twelve teams. But the club Sylhet DSA announced in January 2007 not to participate in the league. No substitute team was used and the league started with eleven teams on March 2, 2007. The opening game of the B. League was played by the Sheikh Russell KC and the Mohammedan SC . Both parted 1: 1. The first champion of the new league was Abahani Ltd. Dhaka, who was able to successfully defend his title in 2008/09. The fakirer pool Young Men's Club was the sporting climber for the 2008/09 season. The league or the association did not let the club participate in the season. With Citycell , an official sponsor of the league was presented for the first time in the 2008/09 season.
