The Bahraini Premier League is the top division of Bahrain in football under the supervision of the Bahrain Football Association . The competition was first held in 1957. In the 2008/09 season, the number of participating clubs comprised 19 teams, after the highest and second highest league had been merged in 2008. All clubs played against each other only once this season in order to determine the ten clubs that made up the new Premier League at the end of the season. The last nine teams in this table played in the 2nd division, the Second Division , in 2009/10 . Since then, there has been a direct promoter or relegation between the two leagues and a relegation game between two other teams.
The Muharraq Club is the record champion with 34 championship titles. The master qualifies directly for the AFC Cup.
