The clubs play a double round tournament , which results in a total of 18 games per team. The game is played according to the 3-point rule (three points per win, one point per tie). The table is determined according to the following criteria:

  1. Number of points scored
  2. Goal difference from all games
  3. Number of goals in all games

At the end of the season, the team with the highest points qualifies for the first qualifying round of the 2019 AFC Champions League . In addition, the winner of the Bahraini King's Cup will take part in the group stage of the AFC Cup 2019 . The two clubs with the fewest points are relegated to the second-rate Bahraini Second Division .

Attendees

Al-Shabab returned to the Bahraini Premier League as champion of the Bahraini Second Division in 2016/17 after a two-year absence . The second climber, al-Ittihad , last played in the 2008/09 season in the highest Bahraini league. The two promoted teams replaced the two last-placed clubs in the 2016/17 season , the Bahrain Club and al-Hala . The Bahrain Club had to return to the Bahraini Second Division after just one year in the Bahraini Premier League. For al-Hala, the relegation meant the end of his eleven years of membership in the Bahraini upper house of football.

Although most clubs have their own stadium, the matches will be exclusively in the Bahrain National Stadium in Riffa , the Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town or al-Ahli Stadium in Manama instead.
