Hong Kong Premier League 2016/17

The 2017/18 Hong Kong Premier League is the fourth season of the top Hong Kong football league since it was founded in 2014 and the 105th competition for the Hong Kong National Championship. The season started on August 25, 2017 and is expected to end on May 13, 2018. The defending champion is Kitchee SC .

mode

The clubs play a double round tournament , which results in a total of 20 games per team. The game is played according to the 3-point rule (three points per win, one point per tie). The table is determined according to the following criteria:

  1. Number of points scored
  2. Number of points scored in direct comparison
  3. Goal difference in direct comparison
  4. Number of goals in direct comparison
  5. Goal difference from all games
  6. Number of goals in all games

At the end of the season, the team with the highest points qualifies for the group stage of the 2019 AFC Champions League . In addition, the winner of the Hong Kong FA Cup takes part in the second qualifying round of the Champions League. The club with the fewest points is relegated to the second-rate Hong Kong First Division League .

Attendees

Both Sun Hei SC as champion and Wong Tai Sin DRSC as second in the Hong Kong First Division League 2016/17 both renounced promotion to the Hong Kong Premier League. The newly founded Lee Man FC was allowed direct entry into the highest Hong Kong league.

The last-placed club in the 2016/17 season , Hong Kong FC , and South China AA , which withdrew from the league due to financial problems, were replaced. Hong Kong FC had to return to the Hong Kong First Division League after just one year in the Hong Kong Premier League. For South China AA it was the first relegation from the Hong Kong upper house in the club's history.
