Yau Tsim Mong ( Chinese  油尖旺 區  /  油尖旺 区 , Pinyin Yóujiānwàng Qū , Jyutping Jau 4 zim 1 wong 6 Keoi 1 ) is an administrative district of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region . The district has 308,000 inhabitants (as of 2011). It has an area of ​​about 7 km² , which makes up a small but significant part of Kowloon (about 47 km²).

It was created in 1994 when the former Yau Tsim District ( 油 尖 區  /  油 尖 区 ) and Mong Kok District ( 旺角 區  /  旺角 区 ) merged, consisting of the districts of Yau Ma Tei ( 油 麻 地 ), Tsim Sha Tsui ( 尖沙咀 ) and Mong Kok ( 旺角 ). The name Yau Tsim Mong is composed of the initial syllables of the individual districts. All three districts of Yau Ma Tei, Tsim Sha Tsui and Mong Kok are among the liveliest and busiest districts in Hong Kong with numerous shopping and dining options. While the range of goods and shops in Yau Ma Tei and Mong Kok is more aimed at a mixed local audience, the range of shops and consumer goods in Tsim Sha Tsui is mostly geared towards financially strong customers from near and far, which is particularly intended to attract shopping tourists.

Education and culture

There are 24 kindergartens , 40 elementary schools , 19 secondary schools and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in the district .

Cultural institutions include the Hong Kong Cultural Center , Hong Kong Museum of Art , Hong Kong Space Museum , Hong Kong Science Museum , Hong Kong Museum of History, and four city ​​libraries .

Sport and recreation

The borough is home to numerous sports facilities such as Anchor Street Playground , Hong Kong Coliseum , Kwun Chung Sports Center , King's Park Hockey Ground , Mongkok Stadium , MacPherson Playground and Boundary Street Sports Centers No. 1 and 2 Park areas include Kowloon Park and Lok Kwan Street Park .

Attractions

The Peninsula is a traditional hotel on Salisbury Road in Tsim Sha Tsui. The Star Ferry operates ferries from Tsim Sha Tsui Ferry Pier to Central (Hong Kong) and Wan Chai . The Hong Kong China Ferry Terminal has ferry services to Macau and mainland China . With the Ocean Terminal there is a pier for cruise ships.
