Central and Western ( Chinese  中 西區  /  中 西区 , Pinyin Zhōngxī Qū , Jyutping Zung 1 sai Keoi 1 ) is a district of Hong Kong . It consists of the eponymous districts Central and Western , also called Sai Wan .

Central is the banking and administrative district and consists of the districts Central and Admiralty . Western consists of the neighborhoods of Kennedy Town , Sai Yin Pun and Sheung Wan . Sheung Wan is the oldest part and origin of the former British colony . The British flag was hoisted for the first time in Possession Street .

In addition to government buildings such as the Hong Kong Supreme Court, the Central Mid-Levels Escalator , Hong Kong Park , Bank of China Tower , Two International Finance Center , Pacific Place , Central Ferry Piers and Peak Tram are also located in this district.

In 2014 parts of the district were occupied for several months in the wake of the Hong Kong protests .
