Eastern AA , short for Eastern AA Football Team ( Chinese 東方 足球隊 / 东方 足球队 , officially Eastern Athletic Association Football Team Ltd. 東方 體育 會 足球隊 有限公司 / 东方 体育 会 足球队 有限公司 ), is a football association team Hong Kong and was founded in 1932. The soccer team is a division of the general sports club Eastern Athletic Association - also called Eastern Sports Club , Eastern SC for short ( 東方 體育 會 / 东方 体育 会 ), which also has a basketball department in addition to soccer . The Eastern AA Football Team currently plays in the city's highest league, the Hong Kong Premier League . Due to the change to the main sponsor Nenking Group ( 能 興 集團 / 能 兴 集团 ) from Foshan , the team has been listed as Eastern Long Lions ( 東方 龍獅 / 东方 龙狮 ) in the HKPL since August 2016 . (As of 2019)
Club history
The most successful phase of the team was in the late 80s and early 90s. In the 1992/93 season they set a new record when they won nine games in a row in the first half of the season and scored 30 goals. In the end, they won their first championship title in 37 years. In addition, the team won the Association Cup and the Senior Shield this season and had thus won the three most important competitions in Hong Kong in one season. The championship title was defended two more times before relegation to the second division became a reality at the end of the 1996/97 season. With only 2 wins out of 24 games they finished last and were relegated for the first time in history. That was not enough, in 2002/03 even relegation to the third division was on the agenda. Only two years later, in 2005/06, they were promoted to the second division. From a sporting point of view, the 2006/07 season ended in a relegation zone, which would have meant going to the third division again. The champions of the 2nd division and sporting climber Tung Po had to cede his place to the Eastern AA after they were invited to the first division by the Hong Kong Association. The return to the upper house was immediately followed by the first title since relegation. In 2007/08 the team won the Senior Shield for the seventh time and even qualified for the 2009 AFC Cup . As a champion from 1993 to 1996 you have already played three times in the Asian Club Championship but never got beyond the second round. In 2016, the club became champions for the fifth time and wrote football history with the title of coach Chan Yuen-Ting ( 陳婉婷 / 陈婉婷 ), for the first time a woman led a men's team in professional football to a first-class title.
