The Hong Kong First Division League ( Chinese  香港 甲组 足球 联赛  /  香港 甲組 足球 聯賽 ) is a semi-professional and at the same time the second highest football league in the city of Hong Kong . Until the launch of the Hong Kong Premier League in 2014, it was the top division. It is an independent league and has no connection with the Chinese Super League or Jia League . The Hong Kong Football Association is responsible for the league. The league has been held since 1908. A total of 29 clubs have won the cup since 1908. The record champions are South China AA with 41 titles so far . The reigning champions are Hong Kong FC for the second time . (As of 2018/19)

format

The league is played with 14 teams, in the round two, with all teams competing against each other. The champion and winner of the Hong Kong Senior Challenge Shield, the oldest cup competition in Hong Kong, qualify directly for the AFC Cup . The two bottom of the table are relegated to the 2nd division.

The clubs do not have their own stadiums, so the public stadiums are used for league operations. If two clubs use the same stadium as their home ground, the receipt of the entrance fees will be shared when they meet.

For each season, the association decides anew how many foreigners can be registered per team. Currently there are nine players per team. Players from China are also considered foreign players here.

societies
