The Hong Kong Football Association , or HKFA for short ( Chinese  香港 足球 總會  /  香港 足球 总会 , Pinyin Xiānggǎng Zúqiú Zǒnghuì , Jyutping Hoeng 1 gong 2 Zuk 1 kau 4 Zung 2 wui 6 * 2 ), is the association for football clubs in Hong Kong . It was founded in 1914 and is considered one of the oldest in Asia . In 1954 the association joined the Asian Football Confederation as one of twelve founding members and became a member of FIFA that same year . Although Hong Kong today after the return in 1997 politically back to the People's Republic of China is one that is special administrative region on a sporting level still autonomous and has its own football association with league and national team .

In 1956 , the HKFA hosted the first Asian football championship . The football men took third place. To date, this is the greatest success that the men's national team was able to achieve in an international tournament.

Hong Kong Championship

Main article: Hong Kong First Division League

The soccer championship in Hong Kong is the most important national title. The men's master has been played out since 1908. The first title holder was a club called Buffs . The club of the South China Athletic Association is the record champion and current title holder . 13 teams are currently taking part in the first division. There are a total of three senior leagues for men in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Senior Challenge Shield

Main article: Hong Kong Senior Challenge Shield

The Hong Kong Senior Challenge Shield Cup is the oldest football tournament in Hong Kong and probably Asia. It has been held since 1896. It is organized annually by the HKFA and is the most important title in national club football after winning the championship. The winner of the competition will be determined according to the knockout system . Usually only clubs in the first division take part, plus the winner of the Junior Shield. The South China AA is also the record holder here. So far the club has won 20 titles.

Hong Kong Football Association Chairman's Cup

The Hong Kong FA Chairman's Cup was launched in 1975. Since 1980 only reserve teams from clubs in the first division have played this tournament.

Hong Kong Football Association Cup

The Association Cup , also known as the Hong Kong FA Cup - officially the Hong Kong Football Association Cup , is the second most important cup competition after the Senior Challenge Shield. The competition was held for the first time in 1975 under its current name. Before that, it was known as the Golden Jubilee Cup . Until 1981, clubs from the second and third division also took part in the cup. The record holder here is also the South China AA with a total of nine titles.

Hong Kong League Cup

The Hong Kong League Cup , or League Cup for short - officially the Hong Kong League Cup , has been held since 2000. All clubs in the first division take part. The game is played in two groups. Each team competes once against the other. The first two in the group qualify for the semi-finals. The placed play crosswise. The record holder in this competition is Convoy Sun Hei SC with four titles.

Hong Kong Junior Challenge Shield

The Junior Shield, officially Hong Kong Junior Challenge Shield , was a football tournament for the youth teams in Hong Kong, which ended in 2013 with the last title winner, the junior team of Yuen Long FC .

Sapling Cup

The Sapling Cup was launched in 2015 and took place for the first time in the 2015–2016 football season. Like its predecessor, the Hong Kong Junior Challenge Shield , which took place until 2013, this cup tournament serves to promote young footballers in Hong Kong. The first trophy of the tournament went to the Hong Kong Pegasus FC junior team .
