The Football Federation of Sri Lanka (abbreviated FFSL ; German  Sri Lankan Football Association ) is the national football association of the island state of Sri Lanka .

history

The association, based in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo , was founded on April 3, 1939 at the founding meeting in the Galle Face Hotel as Ceylon Football Association (CFA) and in 1952 at the 30th FIFA Congress in Lisbon (1950 is also incorrectly stated ) accepted into the world football association . In 1954 he joined the Asian continental association AFC , in 1997 the Football Federation of Sri Lanka was one of six founding members of the South Asian regional association SAFF, along with Bangladesh , India , the Maldives , Nepal and Pakistan .

The association organizes, among other things, the Sri Lanka Football Premier League and the Sri Lanka FA Cup . The men's national team has so far not qualified for a World Cup or an Asian Cup; the greatest success is winning the South Asian Championship in 1995 and second place in the AFC Challenge Cup 2006 . The women's national team reached the semi-finals of the South Asian Cup in 2012 and 2014 as the greatest successes to date . The only FFSL team that has ever participated in a continental championship is the men's U-19 selection . Between 1959 and 1986 she took part in a total of ten Asian championships in her age group; greatest achievement was reaching the quarterfinals of the best eight teams in 1967 .
