The Pakistan Football Federation ( short : PFF ) is the Pakistani football association. The PFF is located at the FIFA Football House in Lahore , Punjab near the Punjab Stadium .
overview
The PFF manages all football clubs in Pakistan. She is a member of both the Asian Football Confederation AFC and FIFA . Membership in the PFF is compulsory for all soccer teams in Pakistan. The PFF is also responsible for the administration of the men's national team and the women's national team as well as for the organization of the Pakistan Premier League , the top national division and other lower divisions. At the local level, sport is administered by eight provincial federations under the PFF.
From 1950 to 1971 there was also a West Pakistani federation.
history
The Pakistan Football Federation was founded on December 5, 1947, after independence from Great Britain . Muhammad Ali Jinnah , the President of Pakistan, became chairman after the PFF was admitted to FIFA in 1948. They organized the first national championship in Karachi in 1948. The PFF was also a founding member of the Asian Football Confederation, founded in 1954 .
Football was very unpopular in Pakistan for a number of reasons: corrupt and incompetent management, too little support from the authorities towards the players and the sport itself, too little media interest and, last but not least, cricket as a favorite sport in Pakistan did not bring football beyond the status of a marginal sport . The association was temporarily banned from all competitions by FIFA due to problems in politics. This applied to both the national team and the clubs. These reasons have also prevented football from developing further in the past two decades.
Development from 2000
In August 2003 a new management was introduced. The president of the PFF was now Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat, who was to change Pakistani football completely. With the support of FIFA, the PFF set up a completely new national league in 2004, which was now called the Pakistan Premier League . In 2005 a national competition for women was added.
In 2007 the Geo Super Football League was founded. This ensured that club football was first seen on TV via GEO Super. This league also became the premier professional league in Pakistani football.
Pakistan improved results in both club and international football. The rise of Pakistan ensured that many players moved abroad, such as Zeshan Rehman . However, critics complain that more effort and sincerity on the part of officials is required to move football forward. Because of bureaucratic inefficiency and poorly committed politicians, football is not developing any further or is not growing at a higher rate. Due to the influence of third parties, the PFF was suspended by FIFA in October 2017 . The suspension was lifted in March 2018
Professional league
Pakistan's national league system has three leagues. The top division is called the Pakistan Premier League , the second division Pakistan Football Federation League and the third division National Club Championship . Among these leagues are regional leagues. There is also a national cup, the National Football Challenge Cup , which is sometimes rather sparsely filled.
