The Pakistani national soccer team is the soccer selection of the state of Pakistan .
The Pakistan Football Federation is a member of the AFC . Football is more of a marginal sport in Pakistan and the team is one of the weakest in Asia. Pakistan has not yet managed to qualify for a soccer World Cup or the soccer Asian Cup.
Pakistan's biggest win for a long time was a 7-0 victory over Thailand in 1960; this result was surpassed by a 9-2 win against Guam . The biggest defeats were in 1969 (1: 9 against Iran ) and 1993 (0: 8 against Iraq ).
Pakistan's participation in the World Championships
- 1930 to 1986 - did not participate
- 1990 - When they first participated in a World Cup qualification for the tournament in Italy in 1990, Pakistan played in a group with the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait and finished bottom of the group without winning a point. The only goal (with twelve goals conceded) came in the 1: 4 home defeat against the eventual finals from the United Arab Emirates. Ali Sharafat scored the first goal in a World Cup qualification in the history of the Pakistani selection .
- 1994 - Pakistan also had no chance in qualifying for the 1994 tournament in the USA. In a group of five with Iraq , China as well as Yemen and Jordan , they were again bottom of the group without winning points and with 2:36 goals.
- 1998 - Pakistan also failed in qualifying for France in 1998 without scoring a point. You lost u. a. on home soil in Lahore 7-0 against Kazakhstan .
- 2002 - The first point in a World Cup qualification was won on May 17, 2001 as part of the qualification for the 2002 tournament with a 3-3 draw against Sri Lanka . Gohar Zaman was a three-time scorer for Pakistan in this game, which took place in the Lebanese capital, Beirut . The two other group opponents Lebanon and Thailand were too strong and Pakistan was again bottom of the group after heavy defeats (1: 8 and 0: 6 against Lebanon and 0: 6 and 0: 3 against Thailand).
- 2006 - In qualifying for the 2006 World Cup, Pakistan lost 2-0 and 4-0 against Kyrgyzstan in the play-off games of the first round.
- 2010 - Also in the qualification for the World Cup 2010 the Pakistani selection failed in the first round. After a 7-0 home defeat against Iraq, they were able to achieve a remarkable 0-0 in the second leg, which was played in Damascus , Syria .
- 2014 - In qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil , Pakistan was eliminated in the first round after a 3-0 away defeat and 0-0 on home soil against Bangladesh .
- 2018 - Pakistan could not qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia . Pakistan lost the opening games of the first round of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup against Yemen 1: 3 and 0: 0.
- 2022 - Pakistan was unable to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar . Pakistan lost the opening games of the first round of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup against Cambodia 2-0 and 2-1.

- Zesh Rehman is another England- born player in the Pakistani selection. The defender played for Fulham in the Premier League.
