The Turkmen national soccer team is the national team of the former Soviet Republic of Turkmenistan in Asia.
Turkmenistan has not yet managed to qualify for a World Cup. The greatest successes so far in international competitions are the surprising qualification for the 2004 Asian Football Championship , where the team came third after games against Saudi Arabia (2: 2), Iraq (2: 3) and Uzbekistan (0: 1) knocked out in the preliminary round, as well as second place in the AFC Challenge Cup 2010 (final defeat against North Korea on penalties).
