The Uzbek national football team represents Uzbekistan and is considered to be the strongest team in the Central Asian countries. She showed her international class at the Asian Games in 1994 by winning the soccer tournament .
history
Uzbeks played in the team of the national football team of the USSR until 1992 .
In 1994 the UFF (Uzbek Football Association) joined FIFA and the AFC .
Uzbekistan has not yet managed to qualify for a soccer World Cup . In qualifying for the 2006 World Cup , Uzbekistan reached third place in Group A in the third and final round of the Asian qualification . The two thirds of the group, Uzbekistan and Bahrain , determined who against fourth in the north and back Central America qualification would play for a World Cup place.
On September 3, 2005, Uzbekistan played 1-0 against Bahrain in Tashkent . However, on September 6, FIFA canceled the game due to a gross referee error . When the score was 1-0, the Japanese Toshimitsu Yoshida gave the Uzbeks a penalty. During the execution, however, an Uzbek player ran into the penalty area too early. Instead of retrying the penalty kick, the referee falsely decided to give Bahrain a free kick.
The second leg should have taken place on September 7th in Bahrain. October 8th in Tashkent and October 12th in Manama (Bahrain) were set as new dates . The UFF protested, but was unsuccessful. The replay in Tashkent ended 1: 1 on October 8, 2005. As the second leg ended 0-0 in Manama, Bahrain moved into the next round.
At the 2007 Asian Cup , the Uzbek team took second place in the group stage behind Iran and ahead of China and Malaysia , but failed in the subsequent quarter-finals 2-1 to what would later be the runner-up Asian champions Saudi Arabia . In 2011 the semi-finals were reached, which were lost 6-0 to Australia. In the game for 3rd place Uzbekistan lost 3-2 to South Korea.
In qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil , the Uzbek team finished qualifying group 3 as group winners with 16 points, ahead of Japan with 10 points. The Uzbeks thus reached the final qualification group A of the Asian association AFC. There, Uzbekistan finished third after the group matches and thus played in the first and second leg against Jordan, third in Group B, in September. The first leg in Jordan ended 1-1, the second leg in Tashkent lost Uzbekistan 8: 9 on penalties after the score was 1: 1 after 90 minutes and extra time.
