Héctor Raúl Cúper (born November 16, 1955 in Santa Fe ) is a former Argentine soccer player and today's soccer coach .

player

He started his career in 1976 at Ferro Carril Oeste . In 1977 he went to Independiente Rivadavia for a year , then returned to his old club Ferro Carril Oeste. With this club he became Argentine champions in 1982 and 1984.

In 1988 he moved to Club Atlético Huracán , where he ended his career in 1992 and whose coach he was between 1992 and 1995.

Trainer

Starts as a club coach

From 1995 to 1997 he was a coach at Club Atlético Lanús . In 1996 he won the Copa Conmebol with Lanús ( comparable to the UEFA Cup ). In 1997 he took over the coaching position at RCD Mallorca , with whom he won the Supercopa de España in 1998.

Two-time CL finalist with Valencia

In 1999 he became a coach at Valencia CF , with whom he again won the Supercopa de España in 1999 . In addition, he made it into the final of the Champions League twice with the Spaniards, but both games were lost - first against Real Madrid with 0: 3 in 2000 and against FC Bayern Munich with 5: 6 asterisk in 2001 .

Coach in Milan and return to Spain

He then became the coach of Inter Milan and was runner-up in the 2001/02 and 2002/03 seasons. Return to Serie A

On March 11, 2008 he was the new coach of FC Parma in the Italian Serie A , where he was released on May 12, however, one match day before the end of the season after two wins, three draws and five defeats.

National coach of Georgia

From August 2008 to November 2, 2009 he coached the Georgian national team . During this time the team did not manage to win and it was with three points from ten games last of the World Cup qualifying group.

Club coach again

Since November 3, 2009 he was employed by the Greek first division club Aris Saloniki . In the 2011/12 season he was a coach at the Spanish first division club Racing Santander until he resigned from his coaching position on November 29, 2011.

Since the winter break 2011/2012, Cúper coached the Turkish first division club Orduspor . At the beginning of April 2013, he left this club after having slipped more and more into relegation places with the club towards the end of the season.

On November 14, 2013, Cúper took over the top club Al-Wasl FC from the United Arab Emirates, which he coached until 2015.

National coach of Egypt

In 2015 he switched to the national team of Egypt, with whom he qualified for the 2018 World Cup , but was eliminated in the preliminary round after three defeats without winning a point. As a result, he was dismissed from the Egyptian Association.
