The Laotian national soccer team is the national team of the Southeast Asian state of Laos . Soccer is more of a marginal sport in Laos and the team is one of the weakest teams in Asia and has so far not qualified for either a soccer World Cup or an Asian soccer championship . Even at the regional level ( Tiger Cup ), the team hardly gets past the preliminary round. In qualifying for the 2006 World Cup , the Laotians initially lost to Sri Lanka, but moved into the group stage as lucky losers after Nepal and Guam withdrew. One of the stars of the national team is Lamnao Singto . The striker played in the Thai Premier League .
In the FIFA world rankings , 134th place in September 1998 was the best ever.
