Badulla ( Sinhala : බදුල්ල; Tamil : பதுளை) is the capital of the Uva Province and the Badulla District in Sri Lanka . The city has about 42,000 inhabitants (2005) and is located in the southeast of Sri Lanka on the Badulu Oya River .
Badulla was the seat of the Sinhala prince who ruled the area before it was incorporated into the British Empire . It then became the administrative seat of the British.
Badulla is the seat of the Diocese of Badulla .
