The eighth edition of the ASEAN soccer championship took place from December 1st to December 28th, 2010. Since 2008 the official name of the event has been AFF Suzuki Cup . The group matches took place in Vietnam and Indonesia , with the semi-finals and the final being played in home and away matches. All Southeast Asian national soccer teams were eligible to participate . Smaller nations like Laos or Cambodia first had to gain the right to start the finals through a qualifying round. The draw for the final and qualifying rounds took place in Hanoi on September 15th . Malaysia became the Southeast Asian champion .

qualification

In addition to the two hosts, the following nations were directly qualified for the tournament in Vietnam and Indonesia: Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore and Thailand.

The teams from Laos , Cambodia , East Timor and the Philippines first had to compete against each other in a qualification. This was played in a championship system for the two places still to be allocated. In 2008 the Sultanate of Brunei was allowed to take part in the qualification with its national team . However, the association was excluded from regular match operations by FIFA in 2009.

The qualifying tournament took place from October 22nd to 26th, 2010 in the Lao capital Vientiane .

Final tournament

The game was played in two groups of four teams each. The group winners and runners-up then met in the semifinals. The winners of the semi-finals then determined the winner of the ASEAN championship 2010. The semi-finals and the final were played in home and away matches.
