The Mỹ Đình National Stadium ( Vietnamese Sân vận động Mỹ Đình ) is the national stadium of Vietnam , it is located in the Tu Liem district about 10 km northwest of the center of the capital Hanoi .
history
The stadium, which opened in September 2003, is the central facility of the National Sports Complex of Vietnam and has a capacity of 40,192 seats, including 450 VIP seats and 160 seats for the press. The stadium was officially opened on September 2, 2003 with a game between the Vietnamese U-23 team and Shanghai Shenhua from China. The arena is a combined soccer and athletics stadium , it was built for the Southeast Asian Games in 2003 for 53 million US dollars by the HISG group from China. The opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the athletics competitions and the football tournament were held there. Also in 2004 some preliminary matches of the Tiger Cup were held in the stadium and in December 2006 large parts of the ASEAN student games .
In July 2007, the Mỹ Đình National Stadium served as one of the four main venues for the 14th Asian Football Championship ; In addition to five games in Group B, with the teams from Japan , Qatar and the United Arab Emirates , as well as the group host Vietnam , a quarter-final and a semi-final were played in it.
