Football Asian Cup 1956
The 1st Asian Football Championship took place from September 1st to 15th, 1956 in Hong Kong . South Korea won .
qualification
The qualification was organized in three groups with three teams each. Each group was divided into two rounds, with the two outsiders meeting in the first round. The winner from the first round now competed in a final against the favorite in the group. The winner from the final round was qualified for the Asian Cup. Hong Kong was set to host the finals.

Israel made it to the finals without a match as Afghanistan and Pakistan refused to face Israel and withdrew.
