The seventh edition of the ASEAN soccer championship took place from December 5th to 28th, 2008. The official name of the event was the 2008 Suzuki Cup according to the agreement between the ASEAN Football Federation and Suzuki AFF . The group matches were played in Thailand and Indonesia , while the semi-finals and the final were played in home and away matches. All Southeast Asian national soccer teams were eligible to participate .
The winner received a winning prize of 100,000 US dollars .
qualification
In addition to the two hosts, defending champions Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar and Vietnam were automatically qualified for the tournament in Thailand and Indonesia.
The teams from Brunei , Cambodia , Laos , East Timor and the Philippines first had to compete against each other in a qualification. Here these five teams played in a championship system for the two places still to be allocated.
The qualifying tournament took place from October 17th to October 25th, 2008 in the Olympic Stadium in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh , in the end Laos and the selection of the host could qualify for the final round.

Final tournament
The game was played in two groups of four teams each. The group winners and runners-up met in the semi-finals, the winners of the semi-finals then determined the winner of the 2008 ASEAN championship. The semi-finals and the final were played in home and away matches.

Group B games were played at Surakul Stadium in Phuket , Thailand . Originally, the games were supposed to be played in Bangkok . However, due to the political unrest, the games were moved to Phuket.
