host

In contrast to previous editions, no team was automatically qualified for the finals. By the official registration deadline, 20 member associations had registered to participate. The 12 highest ranked teams went straight to the second round, while the remaining eight determined the remaining four participants in home and away matches. In the second round, the teams competed in four groups with four teams each in the championship system. The top two in each group qualified for the finals.
The draw for the group stage at the Soaltee Crown Plaza Hotel in Kathmandu on December 1, 2011 resulted in the following groups:
Group A | Group B |
---|---|
Nepal | North Korea |
Turkmenistan | India |
Maldives | Philippines |
Palestine | Tajikistan |
Games and results
Preliminary round
Four teams each competed in two groups (A and B) in the championship system, ie each team played once against each other team in the group. In the group stage, a win counted three, a draw one point, and a defeat counted no points. In the table of the respective group, the points were added.
In the event of a tie between two teams, the table position and progression were decided in the following order: the direct encounters between the teams concerned (higher number of points, goal difference, goals scored), the goal difference and higher number of goals scored from all group matches and ultimately the lot.
Group A
rank | country | Gates | Points |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Turkmenistan | 6: 1 | 7th |
2 | Palestine | 4-0 | 7th |
3 | Maldives | 2: 5 | 3 |
4th | Nepal | 0: 6 | 0 |
Group B
rank | country | Gates | Points |
---|---|---|---|
1 | North Korea | 8-0 | 9 |
2 | Philippines | 4: 3 | 6th |
3 | Tajikistan | 3: 4 | 3 |
4th | India | 0: 8 | 0 |
Final round
In the semi-finals and in the final, the knockout system was used . If the games of the final round had been tied after the regular playing time of 90 minutes, there would have been two extra times of 15 minutes and possibly (if there was still no winner) a penalty shoot-out . Since all games were decided in regular time, this rule did not apply.
