Ri Kwang-hyok (born August 17, 1987 ) is a North Korean football player .

Career

Ri appears internationally as a player in the Kyonggongop sports group , the club of the Ministry of Light Industry.

The center-back won the U-19 Asian Cup in 2006 with the North Korean U-20 team and took part in the U-20 World Cup in Canada in 2007 . There he formed the central defender duo with Pak Nam-chol , but failed in the group stage to the later finalists Argentina and the Czech Republic. The FIFA Technical Report lists Ri as one of the outstanding players on his team and describes him as “a center -back with strong tackles and headers [with] good positional play ”.

This was followed by missions in the North Korean Olympic team (U-23), so he was on the field during qualifying for the 2008 Olympic football tournament , when they stayed behind Australia and Iraq in the final qualifying round and at the East Asian Games in 2009 , where they just missed a medal rank due to two lost penalties in the semi-finals and the game for third place.

Ri made his debut for the North Korean senior team in the first qualifying round of the 2010 World Cup against Mongolia. In 2008 he played with a B-team at the AFC Challenge Cup , but missed a possible qualification for the 2011 Asian Cup due to a 0-1 defeat in the semi-finals . In August 2009, he was in the qualifying tournament for the 2010 East Asian Cup to the North Korean squad when they missed the third final due to the poorer goal difference against Hong Kong. In 2010 he again took part in the AFC Challenge Cup with a B selection and helped the North Korean national team to participate in the 2011 Asian Cup by winning the competition. Ri was on the field in all five games over the entire season and scored in the final on penalties against Turkmenistan as one of five North Korean players.

At the 2010 World Cup in South Africa , Ri was part of the North Korean squad , but was not used in the preliminary round.
