The 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup (until 2005 the Junior World Cup ) was the 16th edition of the tournament and was held in Canada from June 30 to July 22, 2007 .
24 teams from six continental associations took part in the competition. With the exception of the U-20 national team of Canada, which was automatically qualified to host, all other teams had to play qualifying tournaments.
For the fifth time within the last seven tournaments, and for the sixth time in total, the defending champion and record world champion Argentina , who defeated the Czech Republic 2-1 in the final, became world champion . Third place went to the Chilean selection with a 1-0 win over Austria .
As the best player of the tournament, the Argentine Sergio Agüero received the Golden Ball ; he also won the Golden Shoe as the top scorer with a total of six goals scored in seven games.
After the tournament in Mexico in 1983 , more than a million spectators visited the stadiums for the first time (at that time, however, only 16 teams took part in the tournament). Thus, the second highest average number of spectators per game in the history of the junior soccer world championships was achieved.
Venues
The World Cup games were held in six cities: Toronto , Edmonton , Montreal , Ottawa , Victoria , and Burnaby . The final was held in Toronto's newly built arena, BMO Field .
